This design explores a freestyle floral arrangement that flows organically across the cake surface, guided by movement, elevation, and carefully placed negative space. It’s not a traditional full or half wreath, but a modern interpretation—allowing the flowers to breathe and create visual rhythm without following a strict outline.
In this course, you’ll deepen your piping technique by working with an evolving petal structure, beginning with the diamond petal shape—a sharp, pointed form that brings direction and structure to your florals. From there, you’ll explore the rainbow shape for curved softness, and progress into height-focused shapes that create natural lift and sculptural volume. These techniques allow you to build flowers with intentional movement and dimension, forming a composition that feels bold, airy, and elevated.
You’ll work with three distinctive flowers that emphasize elevation, depth, and texture:
Lisianthus – soft and flowing, this open bloom introduces gentle vertical lift and graceful movement within the design.
Chrysanthemum – bold and full, this bloom brings rich texture and volume to the arrangement. Its repetitive geometry creates strong visual impact, adding structure and rhythm to the overall composition.
Dahlia – the foundational flower for the diamond petal shape, the dahlia features many finely layered petals that build into a dramatic, sculptural form. It creates layered depth and provides elegance and visual strength to the design.
Set against a vibrant color palette with high contrast, this design teaches you how to balance bold florals with openness—resulting in a composition that feels both dynamic and refined.
